Heimdal Security features

Malware scanning

Heimdal’s antimalware scanner works well when it is working. During testing, however, it crashed several times on my gaming PC. It didn’t crash any other devices, however.

Heimdal’s scanner, real-time protection, and speedy scans are all excellent. I was able to use Google Docs and Google Sheets as well as surf the web and play video games on my Windows 10 laptop. My Android smartphone was fast enough to watch a Netflix movie.

Heimdal offers more scan options than most antiviruses.

Firewall

Heimdal firewall doesn’t have any special — it’s more of an interface for Windows’ built-in firewall.

While Heimdal is more powerful than Windows, Heimdal’s rule setting process isn’t as simple as Windows. Heimdal is better than Windows, but the rule-setting process can be more difficult for beginners.

Heimdal’s deep-packet analysis service is very effective, but the name is difficult to understand. Deep packet Inspection analyzes all data sent over your network and checks for suspicious activity.

Heimdal’s deep packet inspection service analyzes all outgoing, inbound and future DNS (Domain Name System), HTTP (Hypertext Trans Protocol), HTTPS(Hypertext Transport Protocol Secure) traffic using machine-learning technology. Heimdal is able to detect rootkits and other malware communicating with users outside your network.

Heimdal segregates its deep-pack inspection services into two tools

• DarkLayer Guardian. Real time blocking of malicious connections
• VectorN detection. Monitoring DarkLayer Guardian connections and searching patterns using machine-learning technology.

DarkLayer Guard can be combined with VectorN Detection to create a “next generation firewall”. This feature is common in premium antivirus software. Both Bitdefender and Norton use similar technology in their firewalls.

Heimdal’s deep packet inspection system is broken into two sections. They are listed separately from the firewall. The confusing names, which is a major blow to the software’s useability – DarkLayer Guardian & VectorN detection seem deliberately vague and hard to understand

Heimdal’s deep-packet Inspection service works very well I could simulate 23 scenarios and Heimdal couldn’t block them all Windows Defender only stopped 19.

DarkLayer Guard makes it easy to whitelist specific files or processes. You can easily whitelist certain files, sites, or processes with DarkLayer Guard. All you need to do is put the file, site, and process in a marked box. Heimdal shouldn’t have to make a firewall rule or add a entry to DarkLayer Guards whitelist every time Heimdal blocks something.

Heimdal’s deep packet inspection service is very effective at catching malware files in real-time. It is not intuitively designed. I didn’t like the false positives it returned in my testing.

X-ploit Resilience

Xploit Resistance is an add-on which automatically updates and patches most software. It’s free and very useful. McAfee, Avira and Avira have vulnerability scanners that flag obsolete software. Heimdal is also the only company that offers automatic software update.

Heimdal scans your system for any software after you have closed X-ploit Resist. You have the option to auto-update or monitor any program.

The Xploit Resilience takes quite a while — I had to patch six programs in about an hour .

I was also impressed by the large list of software Xploit Resistance can work with. It was a pleasant surprise that the tool could recognize and update some of my niche programs like Wireshark and Tortoise SVN as well as more common programs such Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.

Heimdal’s gaming feature is a basic feature that prevents security alerts and antivirus scans from interrupting games. Heimdal won’t send security notifications or scans if the gaming mode has been enabled. It will instead provide basic, real-time protection.

Heimdal has made this a great addition to its antivirus. It is a great feature that Heimdal has added to its antivirus. However, it was difficult to find.

Gaming mode disables notifications, but does not improve your computer’s performance. (Norton is my favorite anti-virus for gaming in 2022 span>

DarkLayer Guard is Heimdal’s deep packet inspection service. It also works well. It works in the background, even when the app is closed.

Users are misled by the app into thinking that DarkLayer Guard (a virtual privacy network) is a VPN. VPNs replace your IP address with one from another location or country, which allows you to surf the web anonymously and securely.

DarkLayer Guard is however not a VPN. DarkLayer Guard acts instead as a firewall to block malicious connections. Heimdal’s VPN does not allow you to connect to another server.

Many antiviruses offer a VPN for Windows or Mac. Many antiviruses offer a VPN for iOS. Avira and TotalAV offer excellent VPNs along with premium antivirus plans.

Another thing that I dislike about Thor Safety is its lack of professionalism and polish. Heimdal should also implement anti-theft features within Thor Mobile Safety. Remote locking, GPS tracking, remote image capture, and remote alarm could all be possible. Bitdefender, Norton, Bitdefender, and other professional-looking Android applications offer more features, including anti-theft protocols.

Thor Mobile Safety can be a useful mobile anti-malware tool. However, there are better Android-based antiviruses. Heimdal needs to add more features to its Android app to make it an even better companion to its desktop software.

Support for Heimdal Customer

Heimdal’s customer support is fast and efficient. But, I wish there was more channels.

Heimdal doesn’t offer phone support, live chat or a forum. McAfee and Bitdefender offer fast support via chat and phone in many different languages. This is much better than waiting for an answer by email or searching through an online knowledgebase.
