McAfee — Excellent anti-malware engine with a good range of cybersecurity protections.

McAfee is a trusted security provider for the web that offers real-time malware protection. It also offers the most cost-effective protections, with coverage that can be extended to as many as 10 devices. US customers can have coverage for an unlimited amount of devices.

McAfee can also be more powerful than many antiviruses.

• Anti-phishing protection.
• A virtual private network (VPN).
• Performance optimization.
• Password manger.
• Parental control.
• ID Protect (only available to US customers)
• Secure file storage.

McAfee-related functions work as promised. I was impressed by McAfee’s antiphishing/anti-exploit browser extension which blocked more dangerous sites in my tests than Chrome and Firefox. McAfee’s Wi-Fi firewall and antivirus protections are superior to those offered premium rivals such as TotalAV and Avira.

McAfee VPN wasn’t my favourite. Logging is a problem. McAfee VPN works well for Hulu and Disney+.

McAfee continues to be my favourite antivirus.

McAfee has 1-year plans available to protect 1, 5, 10, and unlimited devices. McAfee also provides 2-year plans at a discounted price (for Family or Multi-Device) making McAfee an affordable premium antivirus suite.

McAfee offers many security features and is a premium Antimalware Software Suite.

McAfee Security Protections performed very well on my MacBook Pro (and iPhone), and Samsung Galaxy Galaxy S5 Plus (and iPhone).

McAfee’s Web Security Suite 2022 is without doubt one of its best. It is very reliable, extremely user-friendly, and offers a 2-year, inexpensive subscription plan.

McAfee security features

Antivirus Scanner

McAfee uses traditional malware detection techniques for its anti-virus scanners. This is used for comparing files against McAfee’s vast virus database.

The first time I downloaded malware files to computer was in 2009. These trojans included spyware and trojans. It detected all my malware.

McAfee failed to get a perfect scan result the first time I used it. McAfee received a flawless malware detection rate a few months before I used it again.

McAfee took McAfee less than an hour in order to perform a full system scan. Avira and Bitdefender scans take 40 minutes. McAfee performed a scan in just 40 minutes. It can take as little or as long as one hour depending on the type and size of the files being scanned.

McAfee scans slower than normal my computer. My computer was not able to play any of the games or view any videos.

McAfee’s virus scan is one of most popular on market. You can schedule full scans during the day or at night.

Firewall

McAfee’s firewall is not only powerful, but also very easy to use. McAfee identified many threats during testing. McAfee’s firewall protection was also more reliable and effective than that provided by Windows, macOS, and other operating systems.

McAfee firewall gives you many security options. McAfee members may:

• Identify the programs which have access to this website.
• Open or close certain network ports.
• There 4 levels for network protection.
• Edit trust settings for stored networks.
• Activate software intrusion detection.
• Whitelist certain programs.

McAfee firewall does a good job. Even those with no technical knowledge, the firewall can block any suspicious activity.

What I don’t like about McAfee’s firewall is that it does not provide detailed logs. McAfee will show you the network activity blocked, but not what traffic.

McAfee’s firewall gives you the best protection against network users. It also has advanced settings to protect against hackers.

VPN (Virtual Private Network).

VPN tunnels all traffic to secure servers. VPN tunnels all traffic through secure servers.

McAfee SafeConnect VPN makes surfing and streaming content easy.

McAfee Safe Connect gives users access to 1,900+ VPN servers in 41 different countries. The kill button (Safe Connect), can be used for disconnecting you from the internet if the connection is lost.

Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu and Amazon Prime were available during my testing. However, Disney+ wasn’t available. Hulu. Disney+. Disney+. Crunchyroll blocked me. ExpressVPN VPN/CyberGhostVPN are both available to stream streaming media.

McAfee Smart ConnectVPN prevented my torrent client’s downloading and uploading of files during my testing. ProtonVPN could be a great alternative for torrenting.

McAfee Safe ConnectVPN provides some excellent features. McAfee Safe ConnectVPN tracks you web browsing and IP addresses.

McAfee Safe Connect VPN performed well in speed tests. The connection to a US Server took approximately 4 to 5 seconds in Australia.

McAfee Safe Connect VPN’s interface is very user-friendly. It works with Netflix. However it doesn’t support P2P traffic.

WebAdvisor.

McAfee Internet Security Advisor blocks exploit attacks and malware-phishing.

WebAdvisor inspects each website you visit and finds exploits.

WebAdvisor stopped all phishing attempts, exploit attacks and phishing attempts that were made against my computer.

WebAdvisor has an optional Secure Search mode. You can assign safety ratings and ratings color coded to search results. However it does give “Dangerous” ratings for certain pirate sites. It did not categorize any sites as safe.

WebAdvisor enables you to rate social networking links such as Twitter or Facebook. It flagged potentially dangerous pages when an account was hacked.

Performance Optimization

Total Protection is a group of performance optimization programs that can be used on desktops and web browsers.

• QuickClean.
• App Boost.
• HTML Boost.

McAfee QuickClean will erase cookies from your computer.

QuickClean scans take only about one minute. I saved nearly 2GB on my computer.

QuickClean scanner allows me to easily view all the details. McAfee categorizes and lists the file names which can be deleted using drop down menus. McAfee can delete files from those who are less tech-savvy.

McAfee AppBoost increases your computer’s speed by allocating processing energies to your open programs.

McAfee Chrome extension for Web Boost Chrome disables autoplaying online video. YouTube thumbnail previews will not load.

McAfee offers excellent performance optimization tools. QuickClean a great tool to remove junk.

Password Manager

McAfee’sTru Key Password Manager offers a great way to protect your passwords. But, it is not as advanced as some standalone password managers.

TrueKey secures and syncs user information in cloud using 256 bit AES encryption. McAfee cannot access saved logins.

True Key features include unlimited storage of passwords across devices as well credit card and document storage. However, True Key is not compatible with TOTP authenticators and USB tokens like Yubikey.

Lastly, True Key’s security features are lacking. LastPass and Dashlane can be monitored for possible password breaches.

True Key is a great password management tool. True Key allows you create True Key to autofill passwords, if you save passwords. (although it is a time saver, it is not a great security feature span>).

Tru Key offers simple master account retrieval. McAfee doesn’t offer any such tools. Dashlane’s password manager does not provide these easy account recovery tools.

True Key’s easy-to-use nature is something that I really enjoy.

Parental Controls

McAfee Safe Family for iOS, Android and Windows is a great parental control program. McAfee Safe Family is included in its total protector plans.

Safe Familie allows the following:

• Filter webcontent.
• Block internet access from devices.
• Block particular applications.
• Observe the device (within ten m).

Safe Family’s interface is very simple. McAfee lets you add websites to block and set permissions for certain content categories.

McAfee Safe Family performed exceptionally well in my tests. Safe Family also logged all my searches span>

Safe Family’s greatest asset is its ability to track and update the location of your child. Safe Family is able to track their mobile devices up 10 meters away.

Protection from Identity Theft

McAfee Identity Theft Protect gives you real-time monitoring to ensure that large amounts of personally identifiable (PII), are not stolen. Experian’s dark net monitoring and credit monitoring systems are used to do this.

McAfee can start monitoring the dark Web for possible leaks as soon a you open an accounts. ).

McAfee Identity Protection allows monitoring:

• 1 SSN (Social Security Number).
• 1 driver’s license.
• 1 passport.
• 1 international bank accounts.
• 10 or more medical IDs.
• Up To 10 email addresses.
• Maximum 10 phone numbers.
• Maximum 10 debit and credit cards.
• Other cards (store card, etc. Maximum 10
• Upto 10 bank accounts.

McAfee’s Social Media Monitor alerts users about privacy issues when they share content via Facebook and Instagram.

Monitor Change of Address to ensure that mail redirection attempts are being monitored. McAfee also offers assistance with refunds, cancellations, reissues, etc.

McAfee offers a variety of identity protection options. Norton doesn’t provide theft fund reimbursement coverage. McAfee’s plans are more expensive.

McAfee ID Protection offers US users a cost-effective and effective way to protect their identity against identity theft.

Additional Features

McAfee Total Protection provides many additional security tools including

• File locking. Protects files with a security question and passcode.
• Antispam. Antispam checks your email for spam and removes any messages that may be considered spamming.
• Network Monitoring. Alerts to notify when an untrusted computer attempts to connect with your network.
• A vulnerability scan. All your programs will be up-to date.
• Secure data deletion. Writes on sensitive data that has already been deleted, so they cannot be recovered again.

McAfee Fillock has its uses, but cannot replace the functionality of Windows or macOS. Gmail, as well as other well-known email service providers, offer excellent antispam protections.

McAfee is my favorite home network analyzer. The tool allows you to easily identify all devices and create a network map.

Use the vulnerability scanner to find out if you need to update your programs.

McAfee provides a secure file shredder. This can quickly remove files from you desk.

McAfee’s other features aren’t always reliable. McAfee also offers a premium anti-virus program.

McAfee Pricing and Plans

McAfee currently provides four pricing tiers with its Total Protectionplans.

McAfee – Easy Setup

McAfee was very easy to use and provided a scan of the computer for viruses.

McAfee’s dashboard can be very easy to use. McAfee’s homescreen has three main buttons.

• PC.
• Web.
• Identity.

Clicking on any button will open a new tab containing the main features and functions for each section. To access firewall, antivirus scanner or software updater options you can click on “PC”.

It is so easy to schedule a McAfee scanner. McAfee’s Desktop application allows you to connect and configure firewall protection.

McAfee’s online portal provides access to McAfee’s identity theft protections and parental controls.

McAfee can be used easily.

McAfee Mobile App

McAfees Mobile Safety can be activated through emailing and texting. You can also download directly from the app store.

The user interface for this mobile app is simple. All other information can be accessed through the menu located at the top-right.

McAfee was able to identify all Android-specific malware with a quick scan. This took only 10 minutes. Infecting iOS apps with traditional malware files is impossible.

McAfee Antitheft Protections are particularly impressive.

• Remote activation. An alarm can be remotely activated if your mobile phone is lost/stolen.
• Continual Tracking.
• Last location. Notifies your about the last place you tracked before you lose your batteries.
• Thief Photo. Automatically takes photos of people who enter their PIN incorrectly at minimum 3 times.

McAfee has these handy features in its mobile app:

• Secure media vault. Locked folder for photos. Password/ Face ID
• Saves contacts.
• Secure Website. Blocks Malicious Phishing and Misleading Hyperlinks When Browsing.

McAfee’s Android application offers more features than the iOS.

• App lock. Lets you secure certain apps with a pin. This ensures that only you have access to the app.
• Guest Mode. Blocks all private apps on your smartphone
• Keep track your data usage. See which apps are using too high data usage.

McAfee Android smartphone app is among the best available on the market.
