ExpressVPN was able to work with Netflix and other streaming sites in my tests. ExpressVPN did not cause buffering, lag or interruptions during streaming. This allows you bypass internet restrictions in Iran and China.

While I love ExpressVPN in general, I don’t like its iOS app.

ExpressVPN’s Lightway protocol does not work and there is no kill switch. ExpressVPN does not have an ad-blocker.

ExpressVPN is however my favorite VPN service for 2022.

I spent a few weeks researching and testing ExpressVPN. The VPN offers many useful features.

Built-in Speed Test

ExpressVPN’s speed testing feature allows you quickly to test ExpressVPN servers to find the fastest. It also ranks servers based upon latency (how long it takes your device to connect with the VPN server), and download speed.

ExpressVPN’s speed testing was very accurate in my testing. ExpressVPN recommended the fastest server, even though it was often slower than other servers.

This option allows you to choose the fastest server whenever you use VPN. You can see the performance of each server.

ExpressVPN’s speed testing feature is great. ExpressVPN’s speed-testing feature is excellent. You don’t need to use any third-party to see the results.

Support for Tor Traffic

ExpressVPN servers are capable of handling traffic from The Onion Router (Tor).

Many VPNs support Tor Over VPN and offer dedicated servers to Tor traffic.

ExpressVPN offers an.onion version to its official website, which allows users to remain anonymous when purchasing a subscription. ExpressVPN users can also be accessed in countries that have strict internet censorship.

VPNs that use Tor can slow internet speeds. Tor encrypts traffic multiple times and adds an extra layer of encryption to slow it down.

ExpressVPN should be used by users who use.onion websites and want to protect themselves against leaks.

ExpressVPN Privacy & Security

ExpressVPN follows a no-logs policy

It doesn’t track your IP address, or what websites you visit. ExpressVPN records communications with support staff to improve user experience.

Multiple independent audits have been conducted on ExpressVPN to verify its no-logs policy. This is something that I love. Cure53, a cybersecurity company, evaluated ExpressVPN’s Chrome extension for 2018. It concluded that ExpressVPN met all security and privacy standards. A year later, auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) confirmed ExpressVPN was in compliance with its Privacy Policy and that user data is erased each time a server is rebooted (with its TrustedServer technology).ExpressVPN has its headquarters in British Virgin Islands (BVI), which is good because there are no mandatory data retention laws in BVI. The BVI High Court can’t order ExpressVPN to share user data. ExpressVPN doesn’t log data so there won’t be any information.

ExpressVPN’s transparent, no-logs policy has been independently verified.

ExpressVPN Speed & Performance

With ExpressVPN servers connected through my VPN, I did dozens of speed tests. The speed was the fastest when I used a Romanian VPN server. It was very fast using remote servers in Australia or the USA.

I began my speed tests without connecting with ExpressVPN to obtain a baseline speed.

Next, I connected to the fastest VPN server using ExpressVPN’s Smart Location feature. I had no speed drops and was able surf the web and view any content without any delay.

Next, I connected to a US server. Even though the distance between me to the server was 4.786 miles (7.703km), I was not surprised that the download speed was slower. Netflix TV and movies loaded quickly. Online games loaded quickly. Websites took only 2-3 seconds to load.

Finally, I tried an Australian server. Finally, I tried an Australian server.

To determine which protocol offers the fastest speeds, I did speed tests with both OpenVPN and Lightway. Lightway was also tested on an Australian server and a Romanian one. OpenVPN speeds on the Romanian servers was 53% slower than when Lightway was used. However, Romania’s internet speeds have been so fast that I can’t compare my results with others. My American colleague was kind enough to speed-test my internet speed.

He did the speed test without ExpressVPN.

My colleague then connected to a New York server via Smart Location. When he connected to ExpressVPN servers New York, he saw the same results.

He connected to an English server. He connected to a server in England, but his ping spiked and his download speed was only 15%.

My colleague connected to an Australian web server for his speed test. The video loaded in a matter of seconds. HD video loaded in under 5 seconds. HD video stayed in HD for more than 5 seconds.

ExpressVPN is one of the fastest VPNs. I was able stream content from several sites in HD-quality during my tests. Also, I had extremely fast connections for torrenting.

ExpressVPN offers apps for Android, iOS and Windows. ExpressVPN was installed on my Samsung Galaxy, iPhone X and Windows 10 PC in a matter of 1-2 minutes.

Android

ExpressVPN’s Android application is easy to use and features-rich.

You can quickly connect to a VPN server by using Smart location.

To open the ExpressVPN app menu, tap the three lines at top of the app. Settings lets you activate split-tunneling and auto-connect, as well as customize network settings. ExpressVPN’s default protocol is recommended. This will ensure that you get the best possible connection speed and security. These shortcuts will appear automatically on your screen, so you don’t need to search for them.

ExpressVPN Android app does not support Network Lock. If you cannot connect to VPN, or reconnect to it, you can use “Block Internet” to disable this feature.

iOS

The ExpressVPN iOS application looks very similar to its Android counterpart. It supports L2TP/IKEv2 protocols.

ExpressVPN’s iOS application is very well designed. The ExpressVPN iOS app works well. It is easy to use and offers excellent security features.

Windows/Mac (Desktop)

ExpressVPN has been installed on my MacBook Pro and Windows 10 PC.

To view server locations, click on the menu icon and go to the Option menu. ExpressVPN offers speed testing and support. The Options menu includes advanced settings, protocols options, and security features. ExpressVPN makes it easy to maintain the default settings.

ExpressVPN also offers split-tunneling on macOS.

ExpressVPN desktop applications are almost identical to their macOS or Windows apps. Split tunnelling is also available for macOS 10.15 or lower.

ExpressVPN Apps: Is ExpressVPN simple to use?

ExpressVPN apps can be used easily.

Both apps share many of their same features, with a few exceptions. Only macOS 10.15 and lower supports split-tunneling.
